Experience the colorful history of this rugged area through the stories of the pioneer settlers, the naming of Grave Creek, the discovery of gold, the impact of the stage line, and the building of the railroad. Open Wednesday through Sunday 10am - 5pm (November 15th - March 15th). Closed Monday and Tuesday. Located 14 Miles North of Grants Pass, I-5 Exit 71. HISTORIC WATER-POWERED GRIST MILL & COUNTRY STORE - You can mix fun with education by visiting this historic mill. Nestled on the banks of Little Butte Creek, the last original operating water-powered grist mill in the West is fun for all ages. Visitors may watch the miller at work and find stone ground flours, meals, cereals, mixes and a variety of other full-of-nutrition food-stuffs and snacks in the mill Country Store. The mill is listed on the National Historic Register and is open 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Saturday. Museum, covered bridge and parks nearby all with no admission charge!

History comes alive in the military memorabilia displayed at Camp White Military Museum. The collections include guns, medals, letters, posters, and historic uniforms. The museum also has a large photo collection of Camp White's history, currently being collected and preserved. Open Monday through Saturday 10:00 am - 3:00 pm. Free Admission.

A diverse collection of historical items preserves the history of Eagle Point and surrounding areas. Located next door to the Butte Creek Mill.


Handweaving Exhibit

Presented by the handweaving guilds of the Rogue Valley, September 4th through December 11th, open Saturday from 11am-4pm (except the 3rd Saturday of each month). The exhibit is located in the Southern Oregon Historical Society Jacksonville Museum - Claire Hanley Building behind the main museum.There will be demonstrations of spinning and weaving, along with a warped loom for the public to try their hand at weaving for free!

Located in the former Jackson County Jail, the Children's Museum features more than 20 hands-on exhibits for the young-at-heart. The life-like scenes include an American Indian dwelling, 1850's cabin, one-room schoolhouse and a 1920's gas station. Located 5 miles west on Hwy 238, corner of 5th and D Streets, Jacksonville.

Step into the 1883 Italianate-style former Jackson County Courthouse for a glimpse into the region's colorful past. Trace the growth of picturesque Jacksonville from gold-mining camp to bustling trade center to National Historic Landmark City. Other exhibits give a glimpse into the life of pioneer photographer Peter Britt in addition to differing and unusual pottery and railroad history. From Medford, take Hwy 238 west into Jacksonville. Corner of 5th and C Streets.

ScienceWorks is a world-class interactive science museum featuring state-of-the-art exhibits, live performances and hands-on exploration for all ages. Located at 1500 East Main near Walker Ave in Ashland, just minutes from downtown. Plenty of free parking is available.
