phantom-tollbooth.jpg (87359 bytes)The Phantom Tollbooth

Even surrounded by dozens of toys, Milo is bored. The Demons of Ignorance are sure they’ve ensnared him, commanding, “If you get the urge to do anything, don’t. It could be dangerous.” To the rescue comes the Phantom Tollbooth, a portal into an enchanted realm of boredom-bashing exploration and ignorance-crushing discovery. This acclaimed musical adaptation of Norton Juster’s beloved children’s book is a treat for the whole family, featuring buoyant music by Arnold Black and witty lyrics by Broadway legend Sheldon Harnick (Fiddler on the Roof, She Loves Me). Just like Milo, audiences are sure to learn that there’s never a dull moment in the Land of Wisdom! Recommended grades 5-8.

roxyann-movie.jpg (57328 bytes)Wine & a Movie at RoxyAnn Winery
"Bottle Shock"

Treat yourself to something different this Friday at RoxyAnn Winery.  Enjoy a relaxing evening sipping fantastic wine and watching a great movie.

This week's feature is "Bottle Shock" starring Alan Rickman, Bill Pullman, Chris Pine & Rachel Taylor.  Sommelier and wine shop owner Steven Spurrier (Rickman), a British expatriate living in Paris, concocts a plan to hold a blind taste-test intended to introduce Parisians to the quality wines coming from elsewhere in the world (and save his business in the process). He travels to the not-yet-famous Napa Valley in search of contestants for his Judgment of Paris taste test (1976), where a chance meeting introduces him to fbottle-shock.jpg (51298 bytes)loundering vintner Jim Barrett (Pullman) and his son, Bo (Pine) of Chateau Montelena. This twist of fate and the resultant oenological epiphany forever change their lives, the fortunes of the Napa Valley wineries, and the global wine industry as a whole.

Cost:  $5.00 per person.  Artisan foods and wines by the glass are available and of course chocolate!

Duke Ellington Orchestra

DukeEllington.jpg (60403 bytes)It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing!” The immortal Duke Ellington not only wrote that famous song but lived the truth of its message through five decades of composing, performing, and conducting. An internationally revered innovator, Ellington created a signature sound — featuring soaring reeds and jungle-growl bass — that lives on in the celebrated Duke Ellington Orchestra, which plays the Ellington song book with all the big-band bio and jazzy zest that its founder consistently delivered. When you hear this singular group perform “It Don’t Mean a Thing,” “Satin Doll,” “In a Sentimental Mood,” “Take the A-Train” and other Ellington gems, you’re sure to agree that the Duke Ellington Orchestra still has that swing!

"A Good Year"

Treat yourself to something different this Friday at RoxyAnn Winery.  Enjoy a relaxing evening sipping fantastic wine and watching a great movie.

This week's feature is "A Good Year" starring Russell Crowe, Albert Finney, Marion Cotillard and Tom Hollander.  Gladiator duo Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe re-team for this adaptation of author Peter Mayle's best-selling novel about a London-based investment banker who relocates to Provence in hopes of selling a small vineyard he has inherited from his recently deceased uncle. As achild, Max Skinner (Freddie Highmore)was taught to appreciate the finer things in life while wandering the vineyard estate of his sophisticated uncle Henry (Albert Finney). Life has a strange way or turning out how you least expect it to though, and 25 years later, Max (Russell Crowe) is now a pragoodyear.jpg (42545 bytes)osperous moneyman wheeling and dealing in the cutthroat world of London business. When Max learns that Henry has recently passed away and that he has been named the sole beneficiary of his late uncle's modest estate, the keen businessman hastily arranges a flight to France in order to assess the value of the old property and get it prepped for sale. After Max arrives to find the vineyard in a crumbling state of disrepair, his troubles are further compounded by the stubbornness of gruff estate winemaker M. Duflot (Didier Bourdon) and the unexpected arrival of a determined California beauty named Christie (Abbie Cornish), who presents herself as a long-lost cousin while making a dubious claim to Henry's estate. Meanwhile, the overstressed Max reluctantly finds himself falling for local café owner and town siren Fanny (Marion Cotillard), whose formidable guard is quickly worn down by the smitten beneficiary. America 1968
america1968.jpg (20526 bytes)1968 was unquestionably one of the most eventful and tumultuous years in America’s history. It was a year of assassinations, escalating war, and counter-cultural ferment, of hippies and yippies and black power, of demonstrations for peace and eruptions of violence. America 1968 brings this amazing year back to life in a fascinating, multi-media musical documentary. Featuring a live band and a compact ensemble of dynamic singer-actors, America 1968 mixes potent imagery with unforgettable words and immortal songs, including “Born To Be Wild,” “Hey Jude,” and “I Heard It Through the Grapevine.” A music-filled history lesson for those who weren’t there, and a powerful return trip for those who were!

vino-lab.jpg (184435 bytes)

If you love food and wine pairing, then you're most likely already aware of our VinoLab concept. If you have not yet experienced the VinoLab, we invite you to get giddy with us in our new tasting rooms located in Carlton, Oregon or our Applegate Valley Tasting Room.

The last weekend of this month, we're going to get a little crazy & change everything up! Come visit our Applegate Valley Tasting Room & meet Joni, the tasting room manager of our Carlton location. We need all the help we can get in giving Joni a little taste of Southern Oregon hospitality - of course in the traditional Troon Vineyard style!

The VinoLab is a small not-so-secret society at Troon Vineyard that focuses on isolating the yummies that work well together. Team Troon spends long arduous hours painstakingly evaluating specific foods and wines to bring to you the best possible pairings. We feature these concepts throughout the year in our various events
